Ideal weather and a fast course worked their magic on Thursday night, with several Team Gloucester runners running personal bests or near personal bests.
Matt Curran led the charge, finishing 5th overall and first in his age group. He expected to run around seventeen minutes-- final finishing time? 17:00. Wes Lassen was close behind, finishing 6th (3rd in age group) in 17:35, a post-collegiate PR.
Rick Ciolino also averaged sub-six miles, finishing 17th in a personal best 18:28 (edging out Joe Iacono by one second). Jenn Brooks Lassen paid the price of rapidly increased mileage, finishing 22nd in 19:03, well off last year's time. Danielle Becker was the 2nd Gloucester woman in (Danielle, start training with us!), finishing 31st (1st in age group) in 19:47.
Dave Geary had a strong race with a 32nd place finish, running 19:49. Layce Alves was the next Team Gloucester finisher, squeakiing under the 20 minute barrier with a time of 19:57, good enough for 35th overall and first in her age group. After a hard effort in Newburyport, a tired Steve Davis ran 20:42 to finish in 46th place.
The race was well run as always, although the first mile marker was off and the age groups were just strange (a 15 year old and a 25 year old in the same age group???).
