Team Gloucester should own its hometown Fiesta 5K. And it did. Coming
on June 23 only five days after Mt. Washington, and four after the
Wellspring Father's day Rockport race, it was deja vu all over again for
Tristan Colangelo and Layce Alves.
They were the first local male and
female mountain finishers and both won the Fiesta 5k outright. Tristan
tripled by winning the in-between Wellspring 5k too on June 19.
But there was more, lots more. Matt Curran, last year's overall
winner, was sixth and uncontested as the first master. Rick Ciolino was
2nd and Mark Asaro, third.
His 16-year-old son Peter, one of several top
guns from the high school track team, was out of sight of Dad finishing
7th and breathing down Matt's neck toward the end.
Bob Gillis was the runaway winner of the over 50 age group with
Phil Dunn second and Pat Salony fourth.
And Carrie Parsi and Peter Watson
led the over 60 women and men. Dave Geary at 39 and still stuck in the
competitive 30 to 39 age category, was 5th in his group. Tristan bought
the first pitcher -- it was part of his first place winnings -- at the
Old Timers.
Most of Team Gloucester was still north for Mt. Washington on the
day after when the wellspring races were run. But Tristan was back and in
good form, blowing through the 5k in a winning time of 16:19. Phil Dunn
was 7th overall and first in his category with a 21;04. In the 10k Steve
Whittey was 17th and second in category with a 42:53 and Pat Salony back
down to earth after the mountain was 35th and 3rd in category with a 47:02.
