Happy New Year Team Gloucester!
While most of the team was scattered about hiking the hills and valleys of Vermont or swimming in the Atlantic or reading the new issue of Runners World on how to lose your holiday puffalump pounds in five days two of the hardcore runners stepped up to the challenge of a trail race.
Wes Lassen and Dave Geary, who are both coming off of Dave months of their own, trekked up to the Merrimack River Trail in Andover for another awesome event hosted by Dave Dunham. This is the second year for the race and is also the second in a row that we had no snow, so it turned out to be a 3.3 mile XC race. Even though it was colder than a witches tit in a brass bra, 21 brave soles showed up for the race.
Most of them really started wondering if Wes and Dave were totally insane when they stripped down to running shorts, and of course Wes with his new colorful singlet (hey that looks like a NSS singlet!) but it just meant they were ready to run. Dave Dunham started the race off in grand fashion and the pack took off for the trail head.
Although the trail was icy in spots Wes did his usual and took off like he was being chased by a tsunami and it was hard to believe he had not run since November when he crossed the finish in fourth place with a time of 19:52. Dave on the other hand must have finally got his head out of his fourth point of contact (his Ass) and went out at a very even pace and maintained it through out the race coming in 11th place in 23:52. Overall it was just another great ass-spanking good time and another good start for Team Gloucester to the racing season.
