It looks as though Dave Geary and Peter Vadala are well on their way to earning the coveted status of “Mountain Goats” with only one race left in the circuit to go.
The latest and 5th race in the circuit was Northfield Mountain which was held on June 25th, also the hottest day of the year with temps well into the 90s. Dave and Peter made the trek with Kim Morgan joining them for her first mountain race of the year just to see how she would do.
This year Northfield was the site of the New England Mountain running Championship and the course was extended out to 15.3 k for the men which meant three loops, and 10.2k for the women or two loops on the slightly more than 5k loop. Both fields were stacked, with elite runners from all over the country arriving to try their luck on the up and down course.
Once it was all said and done, it was Kim who lead the charge for Team Gloucester coming in 10th place overall (55:33) in the women’s race, which featured names such as Anna Pichrtova, Lisa Goldsmith, and Kelli (Lusk) Low. It's worth nothing that she was the only female to hurdle the gate on her last lap coming down the mountain back to the finish. On the men’s side Dave was able to come in 53rd overall (1:35:15) and Peter was not far behind in 62nd (1:45:56).
In the circuit standings Dave is having an incredible run, being in 4th place in the male open category with 343.69 points behind three of the top CMS runners, while Peter is in 4th place in the M 50-59 category with 320:29 points, also an awesome performance .
