Team Gloucester had a strong showing at the Applefest Half Marathon on Saturday.

Mike McGrane was the top Cape Ann finisher, placing 4th overall with a time of 1:14.49. Joe Borge, who is coached by McGrane, was next, running 1:30.49 for 68th place. With Ciolino-like flair, Borge began the day with claims of "I'm just going to run this easy", then went on to run the race of a lifetime, chopping more than 3 minutes off his previous best.

Bob Gillis was not far behind, placing 73rd with a 1:31.51 over the challenging course, and Dave Geary also had an outstanding performance, placing 111 in 1:35.22. Who says you need to train on roads to race on them?

Pixie Harrington was another ecstatic finisher, coming in 689th in 2:01.5, a full 15 minutes faster than she had hoped to run. Rounding out the Cape Ann crew was Douglas Shiller, running 2:25.16.

Dave Geary reports that the race was well-organized despite having to slog through the mud to get the cars and back, and the post-race treats exceeded expectations. But next time Dave, we want a pumpkin!
