Despite Wes Lassen recovering from a marathon, Dave Geary recovering from plantar fascitis, and Rick Ciolino recovering from the night before, it was a fairly decent showing from Team Gloucester on Sunday. Lassen lead the pack with an 11th place finish in 31:30, barely holding off Rick's buddy Steve McCaffrey, who finished 12th overall and 3rd in his age group. (Sure, Steve and Stacey aren't from Gloucester, but since they brought home hardware, we'll make them members for the day). Ciolino was next, finishing 18th overall in 32:30. Steve Whittey was 20th in 33:34, and Keith Manning was two spots back in 33:35. Keith's not from Gloucester either, but gets an honorary inclusion for saving the little Lassen at Around the Cape. Phil Dunn was 25th overall in 33:55, winning his age group and bringing home the lone Team Gloucester turkey. (yes, the jokes that could follow that statement are innumerable). Lacey Alves was the top Team Gloucester woman in 34:37, recovering nicely from her marathon with a 27th overall finish. Alves held off of a determined charge by Dave Geary, who finished 4 seconds back in 34:41. While Ciolino was merely a funny color at the finish, Geary looked downright miserable. Next up was Stacey Lane, who rounded out the Boston invasion with a 35:27, putting her 2nd in her age group and 35th overall. Peter Watson capped off the awards, coming in 2nd in his age group and 100 th overall in 41:10. All in all, it was a good day, though the usual rivalries lacked some oomph and there were a few key absences. Really Bob...painting?
