Don't Forget to Register for 2004!

Cool temperatures and clear skies greeted the runners of the Annual Ravenswood Trail Race Sunday.

Mike McGrane, Ian Shearer, and John Gillis quickly pulled away from the rest of the field, running in a tight pack through much of the course. McGrane was the first finisher, completing the 4.1 mile course in a time of 25:23, 4 seconds faster than Dave Dunham’s 2002 time. Shearer was second in 25:31, and Gillis was third in 25:39. Khouri Rice took fourth in 27:59, and Don Riley ran an impressive race to win the men’s 50-60 age division, finishing 5th overall in 28:43.

Kim Morgan dominated the women’s race, finishing 11th overall in 29:58. Diane Parisi was the second woman to finish, clocking 32:20, and third woman Jessica Hase was right behind in 32:24.

Ravenswood Trail Race
In the race-within-a-race, Wes Lassen edged out Rick Ciolino, finishing 7th in 28:48 to Ciolino’s 8th place 28:50. Bob Gillis was 9th overall and 1st in the men’s 40-50 age division in 29:27; Steve Whittey was 10th in 29:39. After months of injuries, Peter Vadala returned to the racing scene with a 15th place finish, running 32:19. Peter Watson was 25th overall and 1st in the men’s 60+ age division with a time of 37:12.

The weather was perfect, as far as we know nobody got lost (although Watson did fly off-trail on one of the steeper downhills), and there was just enough mud to make things interesting. All in all, a great race and we’re looking forward to making it even better next year.
